After having fought a long and futile legal battle to get to compete at the Vancouver Games in 2010, Women Ski Jumpers can look forward to being on the programme in Sochi 2014 when the IOC yesterday added Women’s ski jumping and 5 other sports to the next Winter Games.

In the buildup to the Vancouver Olympics, Canadians were shocked to learn that the IOC could legally discriminate against female ski jumpers because their contract with VANOC resided in Switzerland, and gave the IOC carte blanche in terms of deciding what sports and events would be in the Games.

A petition urging Olympic sponsors to take a stand against women discrimination continues the fight for inclusion of a women’s ski jump event on the programme at the Vancouver 2010 Games.

The 14 female ski jumpers fighting to be allowed to compete at the Winter Games 2010 next February in Vancouver went to court yesterday to continue their battle.

Vancouver City Councilors have passed a motion calling for a reversal of the decision by the IOC not to offer a women’s ski jump competition at next year’s Winter Olympics, which will be held in the city.

Female ski jumpers have pledged to appeal a ruling by the Supreme Court of the Canadian province of British Columbia that the organisers of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are not bound by Canadian constitutional law to offer a women’s ski jump event at the Games.
